Public Health/Nutrition and Dietetics

The Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice and the Doisy College of Health Sciences jointly administer our dual-degree program in public health and nutrition and dietetics.

About the Program

This program, which results in both a Master of Public Health and a Master of Science in nutrition and dietetics, can prepare you to design, organize, conduct and evaluate nutrition intervention programs in the public health sector.

You will be exposed to the perspectives and points of view of public health practitioners and public health nutritionists and develop a foundation of knowledge essential to the practice of public health nutrition specialists. You will also gain the skills, abilities and methods necessary for successful public health practice.

Curriculum and Program Details

Students in this program will complete the requirements for both the Master of Public Health and the the M.S. in nutrition and dietetics, with the exception that the M.S. practicum will also satisfy the M.P.H. experience requirement.

A full-time student can complete both degrees with a minimum total of 54 credits in two years. You must also pass comprehensive oral examinations and complete a capstone practicum research project in nutrition and public health.

Dual-degree graduates can work in community health settings such as clinics, recreation centers, hospitals and health systems, for local, state and federal programs or various NGOs. They can often focus on subgroups such as children, the elder or at-risk families and populations.

Application Requirements

You must be admitted into both the College for Public Health and Social Justice and the Doisy College of Health Sciences, meeting the admission requirements for both the M.P.H. and M.S. in nutrition and dietetics, to pursue this degree.

Apply for Graduate Admission

You can apply to the M.P.H. through centralized applications SOPHAS and HAMPCAS as well as the Saint Louis University online application system.

Application Deadlines

To be admitted to the Master of Public Health program, the priority deadline is March 1. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the final deadline on Aug. 1. International students must apply by May 1.
