MOCRA marks a quarter-century of remarkable exhibitions and outstanding programming with an exhibition that sketches a portrait of MOCRA through the work of 25 artists. Curated by founding Director Terrence Dempsey, S.J., MOCRA: 25 includes essential works from the MOCRA collection and select works on loan, serving as a perfect introduction for people just discovering MOCRA, and an opportunity for longtime visitors to recall the exhibitions and artwork that have made MOCRA a highly regarded and cherished museum.
Michael Tracy, The Romero Cross
We are proud to present the debut showing at MOCRA of Cruz to Bishop Oscar Romero, Martyr of El Salvador, by Michael Tracy. This major work is dedicated to the Archbishop of El Salvador who was assassinated in 1980 (and is soon to be canonized a saint in the Roman Catholic Church). The Romero Cross has been seen worldwide in prominent venues including the 1982 Venice Biennale, and became part of MOCRA’s permanent collection in 2016. It is now on display after a major conservation and cleaning project that lasted more than half a year.
